Actually, guests should have been able to eat burgers and fries in the Kaisersaal of Hanover’s main train station for four months – but the plans of the Berlin chain Burgermeister to open a restaurant there will not come to fruition for the time being. Burgermeister will not move into the main station in the near future, a spokesman for the company said on Thursday when asked.

The location there is currently “on hold”. The reason for this is an official building permit procedure and supply bottlenecks. Meanwhile, a railway spokeswoman said: “We are still planning the implementation of a conversion.” At the present time, she could not give any further details.

Central Station: Kaisersaal has been empty for years

The Kaisersaal, once a stopover for heads of state and later modernized for gastronomic use, has been empty for about four years. Most recently, the system gastronomy “Vapiano” was located there.

Instead of at the main station, however, Burgermeister wants to open a location on Limmerstraße soon – in premises where burger patties have already been fried in the past. Because the restaurant at Limmerstraße 24 used to be home to Duke Burger and Food Brother. The opening date is currently targeted for mid-September.

It would be the 13th location of the burger chain and the first outside Berlin. The company is planning further stores in Potsdam, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Nuremberg.

Burgermeister wants to open two shops in Hanover

“Limmer will be our first location in Hanover , we are planning a second location in the long term,” said the spokesman for Burgermeister. Other locations in the city are currently being examined and visited.
